CALL FOR PAPERS

Make plans to attend this year’s Sunstone Kirtland on Easter weekend 2013! We are working with the local Community of Christ congregation on an event that will blend their traditional Good Friday and Easter Sunday worship services at the Kirtland Temple with our second regional Sunstone Symposium in Kirtland on Saturday March 30, 2013.

We welcome proposals on a variety of Mormon-related topics and encourage you to submit your proposals for papers and panel discussions early!

Given the focus of the Easter season, we invite proposal submissions on the topics of Christ, the Easter story, Easter music, the resurrection, and its impact on the Restored Gospel.

PROPOSALS MUST INCLUDE:

  • Session title
  • A one-hundred word abstract
  • Presenter name(s), background(s) or short bio, and contact information
  • A summary of the topic’s relevance and importance to Mormon Studies
  • A description of any audio or visual equipment needs (or specify no AV).
  • If possible, please include a topic outline or preliminary draft.

NEW DEADLINE. Please submit all proposals by 31 JANUARY 2013 for first-round consideration. Late or incomplete proposals will be considered if space is available.

SUBMIT PROPOSALS. Email proposal submissions to Symposium Director Mary Ellen Robertson, SunstoneME@gmail.com or mail to the Sunstone office: 343 N. Third West, Salt Lake City, Utah 84103. Phone: (801) 355-5926.

PLANNING COMMITTEE. If you are interested in helping with the symposium planning, contact Mary Ellen Robertson.

SYMPOSIUM PURPOSE. The Sunstone Symposium is dedicated to the idea that the truths of the gospel of Jesus Christ are better understood and, as a consequence, better lived when they are freely and frankly explored within the society of the Saints. Sunstone seeks to celebrate and explore Mormon experience, issues, and art from diverse perspectives.

We recognize that the search for greater understanding is a sifting process in which much chaff will be inspected and threshed before wheat can be harvested.

We welcome the ponderings of Latter-day Saints and their friends and expect that everyone will approach all issues, no matter how difficult, with respect, intelligence, and good will. From scholarly papers to artistic expressions, we strive for excellence in thought, quality in presentation, and respect in the exchange of ideas.

FORMATS. Sessions may be scholarly papers, panel discussions, interviews, personal essays, sermons, films, dramatic performances, literary readings, debates, comic routines, art displays, or musical presentations.
